Building Links: Best Practices to Boost your Organic Traffic

Organic traffic is traffic gained the old-fashioned way, without having to pay for search engine rankings (pay-per-click, for instance). Building organic traffic is the best investment of energy in your website, but it is also the most difficult SEO building method. The instant gratification of paying a few dollars for immediate traffic is tempting, but it is not sustainable. As soon as you stop paying, your content may never get found again. Organic traffic is real interest in your site. The content you put into your website will drive traffic indefinitely.

So here are link building’s best practices to boost your organic traffic and to attract more visitors to your website

For building organic traffic, create the best content you can.

Build your reputation based on real value. If you heard that you have to keep putting content up, so you opt to put up anything, your reputation my irrevocably suffer. The website generates the customers’ impressions of your business and your capabilities.

Scott Stratten, author of Un-Marketing and Professor at the Sheridan College School of Business, emphasizes the point this way.

“Me demanding the best content you can write should not be intimidating, it should not be paralyzing. It should be the minimum that when you write something you look at it and go: ‘Yes! That’s what I wanted to say!'”

When looking for key words, include more specific (therefore less often used) long-tail phrases.

Don’t use key words like “real estate agency.” Try including “real estate agency for farmland in Hatboro, Pa.” Long-tail key phrases are closer to what an actual user would actually type in a search engine. When people use search engines, they most often phrase the searches as real questions and ask for specific information. That’s why long-tail phrases are more relevant to search engines. Long-tail key phrases reflect your real business and there are fewer users of phrases relevant to your particular business.

To please the search engines, write consistently and as often as possible.

Search engines love frequently updated websites. You should update your site at least once a week (without sacrificing quality). Users appreciate fresh content. A site that is updated frequently tells regular readers that you are serious about providing quality content. If there is a continuous flow of valuable and interesting content, why wouldn’t readers frequent your site and refer it to others. This kind of traffic boosts organic SEO.

To build traffic, guest blog but don’t rely on inbound links.

The practice of writing guest blogs just for the opportunity to include backlinks was considered spammy in 2014. It is widely considered really bad form today to try to artificially blow up SEO by pushing your links.

Writers like Matt Cutts (currently head of the Google Webspam team) says,

“…this is why we can’t find nice things in SEO space: a trend starts out as authentic. Then more and more people pile on until only the barest trace of legitimate behavior remains. We’ve reached the point in the downward spiral when people are hawking ‘guest post outsourcing’ and writing articles about ‘how to automate guest blogging.'”

Guest blogging can be valuable to build up your reputation. You should only write guest blogs on genuine request from people you know and where there is a clear business link to your own business. Guest blogs should always be written to the same standards as content on your own site.

When you write guest blogs, aspire upwards. Being published on a highly authoritative site has value in enhancing your reputation. Aim for authoritative sites with high quality content and decent traffic numbers. Promote your guest posts on your own site. This shows how your opinions are valued by highly valued sites. Your promotion of your guest post also demonstrates that you appreciate the opportunity to guest blog. You should check your guest posts regularly and answer any comments that appear.

If you want to build Google SEO, don’t anger Google.

Organic link building should also adhere to the highest ethical practices. Never pay for inbound links. Don’t build cheap links. Don’t publish low quality or stolen content. Building organic traffic is authentic and hard work. The essence of it is avoiding shortcuts.
